Spark Charter School is seeking K-6 teachers for the 2015-16 school year.  We aspire to provide students with a new model for education that incorporates choice and active engagement in learning, attention to their social/emotional intelligence, and parent collaboration in their children's education. TITLE: K – 6 Teacher

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Bachelor’s degree
2.       Valid Elementary Teaching Credential
3.       Committed to the three core tenets of Spark Philosophy: project-based learning, social/emotional intelligence, parent participation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Advance degree and/or training in our three core tenets.
2.       A minimum of three years teaching experience at the K-6 level (not including substitute teaching or student teaching)
3.       Spanish/Mandarin speaker

REPORTS TO: School Site Administrator

JOB GOAL: To provide each student with a caring, stimulating, learning environment that will cultivate emotional intelligence and enable each child to reach his/her fullest academic potential.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Leader

1) Design, deliver instructional lessons to meet curriculum requirements adopted by the Board of Education.

2) Provide planned learning experiences that motivate students, utilize best practices, are inclusive of parent participation, adhere to Spark’s educational model, and are developmentally appropriate.

3) Develop current lesson plans (daily and/or weekly) and instructional materials that provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

4) Select and utilize appropriate instructional materials, aids, and supplies that assist in the development of innovative, well-organized units of study.

5) Identify, record, reflect on student needs and cooperate with the professional learning community to assess, plan, monitor, and implement methods to solve student health, attitude, and learning issues.

6) Work collaboratively with parents to design, deliver, manage learning experiences for all learners.

Classroom Management and Aesthetics

7) Establish and maintain high standards of student behavior needed to achieve optimal learning atmosphere in the classroom.

8) Provide a functional and attractive environment in the classroom conducive for learning and aligned to the curriculum.

9) Adhere to Spark’s Positive Behavior Intervention System policy, and social/emotional learning policy.

10) Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, parents, and other paraprofessionals as appropriate.

 Assessment

11) Participate cooperatively in the system of evaluation as stated in the charter’s guidelines.

12)   Administer assessments in a variety of forms (formative, summative, standardized, etc.) in accordance with the charter’s testing programs.

13)   Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare student reports and communicate with parents regarding their child's progress.

Additional Responsibilities

15) Communicate with parents, administration, colleagues in a timely, consistent manner.

16) Actively participate in a professional learning community.

17) Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required in an accurate and timely manner.

18) Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

19) Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees as agreed upon.

20) Attend all school functions as required by the Board of Education.

Professional Development

21) Attend all teacher in-service education required and provided by the administration.

22) Maintain professional competence through participation in additional in-service activities and other learning opportunities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary commensurate with experience, conditions, and length of employment per contract with the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by site administrator.
