Proposition 39

Spark opened in 2015 with 8 classrooms grades K-6 which remained unchanged in 2016 school year. Despite requesting more space from the Sunnyvale School District, the District limited the school to the same number of classrooms for the 2016-17 school year. Although Spark exercised to maximize its space, the school was forced to turn away many families who wished to attend. Spark was allocated 9 classrooms for 2017-18 school year and 1 flex-room for special-ed and enrichment. Next year, Spark anticipates the need for at least 3-4 additional classrooms to accommodate all students wishing to attend for 2018-19 school year. In
accordance with state law (Proposition 39), Spark will apply for that space from the Sunnyvale School District. To do so, it must show that there is strong interest in the community to attend the school. We prove that by collecting and submitting "Intent to Enroll" forms.
What is Prop 39?
The intent of Proposition 39 ("Prop. 39") is to ensure "that public school facilities should be shared fairly among all public school pupils, including those in charter schools." (Education Code Section 47614.)
What is the purpose of the "Intent to Enroll" form?
Spark is asking the families in the Sunnyvale School District who are interested in enrolling their children in Spark next fall to complete an Intent to Enroll form. Spark will be enrolling children in grades K to 8 next year.
Signing the form does not commit you to attend Spark. It is not an application. Signing the form only indicates that you are "meaningfully interested" in having your child attend Spark. The District cannot dis-enroll your child from their current school as a result of your signing the form. The form is only used by the District to determine the level of interest in Spark, and, by extension, how much space to allocate the school for the next school year.

Any CA resident can apply for admission to Spark. However, for the purposes of acquiring facilities from the district, the Sunnyvale School District will only consider intent to enroll forms submitted by in-district families.

The forms must be submitted to Spark by Friday, October 27 to be counted. You can submit the form in person, by e-mail, or by US mail. Our address is on the Intent to Enroll form. Be sure the sign the form before submitting it. Feel free to call Spark if you have any questions.
Please download the form below and return it to Spark at  prop39@sparkcharter.org  or  739 Morse Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94085

Please confirm your interest when the District calls or emails to verify your signature.
If you miss their call, please call them back and email them.  If they are unable to confirm your interest, your signature will not be counted.
